Surf Coast House
Victorian Surf Coast, Australia
2026+ [In Progress]

A new coastal house [weekender/retreat] located on Victoria’s surf coast, nestled in a heavily vegetated dune coastal site in a high bushfire prone area.

Conceived as a no-maintenance ‘bunker’ of sorts, the house is designed to have the flexibility to be ‘closed up’ during periods of non-use, through the use of corten steel sliding panels which also double as fire protection elements.

The screens allow a permeability of the landscape when opened up - allowing the landscape to continue into and around the house. We wanted the natural landscape to flourish in its own right, without adding any additional plantings to ‘enhance’ the site.
